AFRICA TECH AWARDS: TREEPZ EMERGES TOP 15

Treepz emerges top 15 climate tech startups in Africa

Africa’s largest car-sharing marketplace, Treepz has emerged as one of Africa’s 15 most promising Climate Tech startups for the second edition of the Africa Tech Awards. Treepz was selected among the top 15 out of 124 African startups that applied within the climate tech category. The AfricaTech Awards, a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by VivaTech in collaboration with International Finance Corporation (IFC), recognizes and supports Africa-focused companies with ground-breaking solutions in the Climate Tech, Health Tech, and FinTech sectors.

List of top 45 Africatech award winners

In a press statement released by AfricaTech Awards, on Wednesday 26th April 2023, 45 startups were selected by Deloitte from a pool of 380 applicants for the different categories of the awards across 33 African countries. The Fintech category received 143 applicants, followed by Climate Tech with 124 applicants, and 115 applicants from Health Tech. “These 45 identified startups are evidence that Africa is playing a leading role in Health Tech, FinTech, and Climate Tech; the AfricaTech Awards have been designed to help them reach their full potential,” explained Viva Technology Co-Presidents Maurice Lévy and Pierre Louette, and Managing Director François Bitouzet.

Treepz’s emergence in the climate tech category is coming from a place of its contribution to reducing the impact of Co2 emissions in the continent. Over 800,000Kg of CO2 emissions have been saved from the environment as a result of passengers sharing rides with Treepz-powered vehicles as against using their vehicles. With the movement of about 12,000 people daily across Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya, Treepz has continued to retain its global standing as the largest shared mobility platform in the continent.

According to Makhtar Diop, IFC’s Managing Director, “Tech startups play a key role in emerging markets by supporting economic growth and scaling innovative solutions to pressing development challenges. Yet many of them go unnoticed by international investors.”  The AfricaTech Awards provides a global stage for tech entrepreneurs to connect with relevant stakeholders in the tech ecosystem that will help them scale their innovations across the continent and beyond. “The next stage of the selection process of this award will involve a panel of industry experts who will identify the top three startups in each category, to be invited to join Viva Technology 2023,  from June 14 to June 17 in Paris. The winners of the AfricaTech Awards will be announced on Viva Technology’s main stage.” – AfricaTech Awards
