The inaugural U.S. Mission Alumni Impact Awards Gala was held at the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, Uganda on January 21st, 2023 and saw the Country Manager for Treepz Uganda, Mr. Ronald Hakiza go home with the gong for Outstanding Alumni in Business and Entrepreneurship.
The U.S. and Uganda have had a close relationship for 60 years now, and this red-carpet event was to honour the impact of U.S. exchange program alumni from throughout the nation who had taken part in American government exchange programs over the previous 60 years.
The award ceremony honoured deserving people for their wide range of contributions to society, ability to inspire change and provision of the highest quality of service. It was only fair that the top performers were honoured and awarded given the expanding network of U.S. Exchange alumni and the scaling effect being created by these incredible people.
The 13 categories of the Alumni Impact Awards were granted based on the impact that an alumni had made. The U.S. mission in Kampala defined impact as influencing policy or social change, offering substantial social benefit, advancing education or training, or bringing critical concerns to the public’s attention. The community might be referred to as their neighbourhood, city, region, or country, but the impact had to be felt across the entire community.
The “Outstanding Alumni in Business and Entrepreneurship” category was one of the most competitive. And we are happy to report that our very own Ronald Hakiza, Country manager for Treepz Uganda received this award. Click here to watch a video of the celebration.
This prize is proof that hard effort, grit, and a desire to make a difference in the world always prevail. And as Hakiza stated, “I would never be here if it weren’t for the committed team of people that have continued to work with me in creating value for the transport sector.”
We feel privileged to have such a superb leader and role model on our team. We would like to congratulate our Country Manager on this outstanding accomplishment and express our gratitude to all nominees and winners of the U.S. Mission Alumni Impact Awards for their commitment to selfless service in their local communities, the region, and the global community.
