Nigeria: Nationwide Hunger Protest Disrupts Interstate Transport

Thursday’s nationwide protest over economic issues severely impacted interstate transport in Lagos State. Many transport companies halted operations, leaving motor parks, including Mazamaza, empty and inactive.

At Mazamaza Motor Park, transport companies like Young Shall Grow and Peace Mass Transit were closed, with no vehicles loading and few commuters present. ABC Transport Plc. also suspended its services, citing security concerns.

Similarly, God is Good Motors and Libra Transport Company on Okota Road did not sell tickets, further disrupting travel plans.

Kenya: Inflation drops in July as prices of foodstuff and fuel ease

Kenya’s inflation has fallen to 4.3% in July, down from 4.6% in June, marking a four-year low. This drop was driven by a strong shilling and a slight reduction in key household costs like electricity and fuel. Transport costs also decreased, rising only 4% compared to 7.7% the previous month.

While food prices saw a slight decrease, costs for items like cooking oil and gas rose, keeping some household budgets tight. Recent protests over tax hikes and living costs led President William Ruto to scrap a proposed finance bill.

The lower inflation may influence the Central Bank’s interest rate decision on August 6.
