Treepz Partners With SafeBoda Ahead of The Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda

Treepz signs off Partnership with SafeBoda

Our mission to constantly provide predictable, structured and accessible transport solutions to millions of people took a further leap today as we concluded all the paperwork involved with partnering with SafeBoda; Uganda’s super app and ride-hailing service provider.

This partnership is set to deliver an exclusive bus and boat transport experience to thousands of guests visiting one of Africa’s Largest Music Festivals; Nyege Nyege which includes a bus ride from set pickup locations from Kampala to Kalagala falls, where customers will set off on a 10-minute boat ride to the festival site, right on the banks of Itanda falls.

Concert goers will experience a comfy bus ride from Kampala to Kalagala falls with Treepz and then set off on a boat ride by SafeBoda to the festival right on the banks of Itanda falls.

The boat service, SafeBoat operated by SafeBoda is the official and exclusive boat transportation for Nyege Nyege 2022 and will serve up to 20 people per ride in 15-minute intervals.

Ronald Hakiza, the Treepz Uganda Country Manager, said, “I’m excited that TREEPZ Uganda and SafeBoda have signed this partnership to bring more flexibility in how thousands of people will travel during the festival. This is testament to the fact that we shall always put customers first to ensure that transport is predictable, accessible and structured for every African”. He also applauded SafeBoda’s innovative approach to transporting partygoers and is committed to working closely to ensure a great travel experience.

Ricky Rapa Thomson, the SafeBoda Co-founder and Director, says the partnership aims to deliver a beautiful experience that takes guests into the festival with an exclusive entrance next to the beach and foremost stage while helping them avoid long drives. “We offer a professional and safe service with registered motorised boats, mandatory life jacket wearing, and security support from the Marine Police. We have also set aside an affordable parking lot for those who need to park their vehicles at the set-off site, with security guaranteed,” Ricky adds.

The routes and pricing

Customers can take a bus and boat to the festival by placing an order via the Nyege Nyege transport-dedicated website, nyegenyegetreepz.com. The pricing is distributed as follows:

  • Kampala to Itanda via Kalagala for UGX 40,000
  • Entebbe Airport to Itanda via Kalagala for UGX 65,000
  • Jinja to Itanda via Kalagala for UGX 20,000
  • Itanda to Jinja via Kalagala for UGX 20,000

Once the passenger details and journey package are entered, the customer can pay with a VISA card, Airtel Money, or MTN Mobile Money.

Since 2015, a collective in Kampala that runs two record labels and a multi-day annual festival organizes the Nyege Nyege Festival, a multi-day, multi-stage event at an abandoned riverfront resort in Jinja. In 2018, Uganda’s main tourism trade group named the festival the best overall tourism event of the year, repeating the award in 2019.
